Weekend What’s Up PGCo

August 8, 2014 By: Ceemaccomment

Amaluna with Big TopThis Sunday I am going to see a Circue du Soleil production titled “Amaluna.” YAAAY PGC BLOG! The band for this extravagant production is all female; the cast is 70% female. It’s my first time seeing a Cirque du Soleil productions. My camera is charged and I’m trippin. <- DC in me.  Taking place on a fictional island, the Queen Prospera is charging over her daughter Miranda’s coming of age ceremony. In the wake of a storm caused by Queen Prospera, a group of young men lands on the island (insert dramatic music here-DUN-DUN-DUUUAAAAAHN)  The arrival of these scantily clad, athletic men triggers the story of love between Prospera’s daughter Miranda and Romeo, her suitor. Their love will be put to the test and these tests are where the performers shine with awe inspiring feats that bring to life the pursuit of Miranda and Romeo’s love.  This will indeed be juicy.  The performance runs from now until September 21st under the Big Top at National Harbor. Tickets may be purchased by visiting www.cirquedusoleil.com/amaluna or by calling 1-800-450-1480.

Praise in the ParkAlso happening on Sunday, City of Praise Family Ministries hosts Praise in the Park with special guest Tye Tribbett on August 10th, 10am-4pm in Bowie at the Bowie Baysox Stadium. The church is celebrating 50 years of ministry in the DC/MD/VA area; I remember when the original church was in DC on Douglas Street. Holla! Midnight musicals than Bob’s Big Boy on 45o. Come out and celebrate with them at the Bowie Baysox Stadium, 4101 Crain Highway.  This is a free event.

FestAfrica African Festival in downtown Silver Spring this weekend, Saturday and Sunday August 9th & 10th, at the Veterans Plaza, Silver Spring Civic Center –
8523 Fenton Street
(Corner of Fenton Street & Ellsworth Drive)
Silver Spring, MD 20906. Festivities get started 1pm  and end at 8pm each day. The festival features music by local and international African music and dance performances, African cuisine, vendors, games for children, and health fair. 1  I really like Silver Spring.  There’s a good feel to the place. Lots of diversity, a good town center, multicultural businesses, arts, restaurants, and transit oriented development.

Back to SchoolSaturday August 9th at Showplace Arena, 10am to 1pm, Prince George’s County Public Schools hosts their annual Back to School Fair.   This is a  fee event.
